about

Do I spend more time staring at my phone or my computer than I do engaging with the people around me? Sadly, the truthful answer is yes. Postcard was written at the point where I'd had enough of constantly trying to interact through screens and I longed for the old ways of sticking to plans made over the landline telephone and hugs and handshakes instead of likes and pokes.

lyrics

I don't want to tweet what I'm feeling
I think it loses it's meaning
Because the html
It has no taste and no smell

And I won't be changing my status
To try and feel like I'm famous
And I won't write on your wall
If I don't know you at all

And you're not going to find me on myspace
I don't have time for that rat race ‘cause
I have no apps on my iphone
So perhaps we can postpone

And we'll talk when I see you
Because I'm all through with You Tube
And I can't handle a Skype call
Because my bandwidth is frightful

Oh I'll send you a postcard
I know waiting can be hard
But I'll put pencil to paper
And maybe a few days later

In your hands you will hold
A tiny piece of my soul

You don't have to send me a photo
Of your vacation in Soho
I won't trade your smile for the Digg-its
On your photograph widgets

You don't have to like me on facebook
Or subscribe to my output
You don't need to follow my blog posts
Because you know what I want most

I want to love you and hide it
Just keep some of it private
I don't want my world on a web page
That's not how real friends are made

Oh I'll send you a postcard
I know waiting can be hard
But I'll put pencil to paper
And maybe a few days later
In your hands you will hold a tiny piece of my

Soul held in suspension
It's my love in third dimension
I could write it on your wall but
It wouldn't be the same thing
The same thing at all

If I have to write one more profile
I think I might just get hostile and
Turn my screen off forever
Until we are together

I’ll send you a postcard
I know waiting can be hard
But I'll put pencil to paper
And maybe a few days later
In your hands you will hold
A tiny piece of my soul
